February 7, 2022

Bacolod City’s Emergency Operations Center Task Force (EOC-TF) is finalizing preparations for the rollout of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) for children aged 5 to 11 years old on February 14.

Dr. Chris Sorongon, medical deputy chief of EOC-TF, said today that almost 5,000 minors from the said age group have already been registered online aside from those listed in both public and private schools.

“If we collate all these, probably we already have 10,000 to 15,000 registered children willing to participate,” Sorongon said.

Just like the launching venue for the 12 to 17 years old vaccination campaign, the rollout for the 5 to 11 age group will be also be held at the Riverside College campus in partnership with Riverside Medical Center.

Sorongon said initially, they expect to inoculate 200 to 300 children, mainly those with comorbidities on February 14.

He added the National Vaccination Operations Center has informed the EOC-TF the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine supply intended for areas outside Metro Manila is expected to arrive on February 9.

“Most likely after that, the schedule of delivery will be between February 10 and 13. February 14 has been set for the nationwide launching for children 5 to 11 years old,” he added.

Last week, Em Legaspi Ang, executive director of the EOC-TF and coordinator of the local Covid-19 Vaccination Council, said he has attended the online training course on administering the Pfizer-BioNTech jabs for five to 11 years old children.

According to the Department of Health, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is recommended for active immunization for the prevention of Covid-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 in individuals 5 years and older, based on the emergency use authorization issued by the Food and Drug Administration Philippines.
