FISHING INDUSTRY OF SIPALAY TRIES TO RECOVER AFTER THE TYPHOON
The fishing industry of the city of Sipalay is now trying to recover from the destruction wrought by Typhoon Odette, although much help are still needed by local fishing stakeholders to be able to feed even their own individual family each day. The city’s major industry is tourism and this sector is also on its knees following the multi-million-peso damages caused by the typhoon. The fishing industry was partly dependent on the flourishing tourism sector before the typhoon’s devastation. Thousands of typhoon victims in the nearby town of Cauayan, the City of Sipalay, and also nearby municipality of Hinoba-an in southern Negros Occidental need more assistance to survive each day. These were taken on December 3, 2021 – two weeks before Odette – featuring part of the vibrant fishing industry of Sipalay at Purok 4, Barangay 2, at the city proper’s shoreline area.* (Arman Toga photos)
