11 Negrenses treated for firecracker injuries; No stray bullet incident

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) reported over the weekend that they recorded 11 firecracker-related injuries following the Christmas Day and New Year’s Day celebrations in the province.

NOCPPO’s record covers the December 24, 2021 to January 1, 2022 period.

According to NOCPPO, of the 11 injuries, 10 were male and one female aged 24.

The female firecracker victim was a resident of Cadiz City and investigation revealed that she was only seating outside of their house when a skyrocket or “kwitis” struck her at five minutes before 12 midnight of December 31.

Meanwhile, four of the victims were reported to be minors, while two others suffered injuries after using PVC cannon or “boga.”
Records also show one injury related to a “triangle” and another for “katay.”

Data further shows all of the victims were not inebriated, but all of them incurred their injuries outside the designated firecracker zones.

NOCPPO spokesperson Police Lt. Abegael Donasco, said they have also not recorded any stray bullet incident.

Donasco said there was no muzzle taping since they didn’t receive any order from the national headquarters.

However, all uniformed personnel were warned prior to New Year’s Day that they could face charges if they are caught unlawfully discharging their firearms.* (DGB)
