City mayor meets telco reps today on intermittent internet connectivity

December 31, 2021

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia is set to meet today, Dec. 31, with representatives of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), DITO, Smart and Globe in a bid to thresh out problems related to Internet connectivity.

Leonardia called for a conference with the different telecommunication firms following persistent complaints over the slow to no internet connection at all in many areas post-super Typhoon Odette.

“It is best that we discuss the problem and hear out the telcos what happened to their infrastrucrure and get their commitment. From what I initially gathered, this is a nationwide problem,” the mayor said.

Leonardia will be joined by the MITCS department and the Business Licensing and Permits Office, among others, during the 1 p.m. meeting at the Bacolod City Government Center, Executive Assistant George Zulueta, said.

The mayor expressed concern that among those to be badly affected if the problem is not resolved soonest is the LGU’s Electronic Business One-Stop Shop (E-BOSS) which kicks off at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central on its second year beginning Jan. 3, 2022.

The E-BOSS gathers together all offices and units of the LGU involved in the processing of renewal of business permits and licenses annually that normally runs until February 28.

The city government program was moved to the Ayala Malls last year for a bigger space following the COVID outbreak, Zulueta explained.

With unhampered connectivity, each transaction is usually completed in 45 minutes, provided that applicants have complied with all necessary requirements.*
