‘Most confusing election’

November 16, 2021

“This is the most confusing election I have ever seen.”

This is how Bacolod mayoralty candidate, former Congressman and Provincial Consultant Alfredo “Albee” Benitez describes the ongoing political developments involving substitutions of national candidates
Benitez said he was waiting for developments after 5 p.m. yesterday, the deadline for all candidates to either withdraw from the race or get substituted.

“It is very confusing right now. The drama may not be over. I am much as a spectator as anyone of us,” he said.
Benitez is the provincial chair of the ruling PDP-Laban in Negros Occidental where majority of the local officials are members.

The former congressman who is running for mayor of Bacolod, said that he is supporting moves to have the Substitution Law amended.

Benitez said that the law “should only give a small period of time to make substitutions and lay out parameters to limit candidates from transferring from one position to the other.”

Right now, it confuses supporters and political parties, he added.

Asked if he will support the official candidate of the PDP- Laban, Benitez said “we still don’t know which one.”* (EAA)
