No rush in deciding whom to support for president: Gov. Lacson

November 15, 2021

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is willing to wait until next year before announcing whom to support for president in the 2022 national election.

Today, November 15, is the deadline set by the Commission on Election (Comelec) for withdrawal and substitution of candidates.

“Personally I don’t want to make the decision right away. I may wait until next year,” the governor said.

Earlier, Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer said that he with Lacson will meet with the 31 mayors in the province to consult the latter as to who among the presidential candidate they will support in the upcoming 2022 elections.

Despite the talks, Ferrer said they would still respect the decision of the local mayors who they would support.

Ferrer, meanwhile, said personally he will support any presidential candidate who will be able to introduce programs that benefit Negros Occidental.

The vice governor added that the key factor is, someone “who will be able to revive the Negros Island Region once he or she steps into office.”

Negros Occidental is the 5th vote rich province in the country with almost 1.9 million registered voters based on data released by the Commission on Elections in 2019.* (EAA)
