NGCP explains 12-hour scheduled power interruptions amid Negrenses’ complaints

The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said it is imperative that they shut down the Amlan-Siaton 69kV line for them to be able to complete their maintenance works for this year.

Michelle Visera, corporate communications and public affairs officer of the NGCP in Negros, said in an interview the series of scheduled power interruptions these past months was in line with their program to replace wooden poles with steel poles.

Her statement came amid the complaints of residents of eight municipalities and one city in Negros Oriental covered by the Amlan-Siaton 69kV line over yet another scheduled power interruption from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 19.

Just a few weekends ago, the NGCP also shut down the same line for the same reason (as well as in many areas in Negros Occidental).
The areas to be affected are Amlan, San Jose, Sibulan, Dumaguete City, Valencia, Bacong, Dauin, Zamboanguita, and Siaton.

Visera said hopefully, notwithstanding other unexpected causes, this would be the last preventive maintenance of NGCP for wooden pole replacement for this year.

If they are unable to complete the work, they will resume in 2022, she said.

Visera also said the NGCP wants to undertake its regular preventive maintenance activities on time to ensure stable and reliable power during the May 9, 2022 elections.* (Mary Judaline Partlow, PNA)
