‘Cano’ Tan making a comeback as independent candidate in next year’s polls
“I will run as an independent candidate for councilor in Bacolod in next year’s election. I will make my formal announcement soon.”
Thus said businessman and former Number 1 city councilor Ricardo “Cano” Tan when asked to comment on talks that he is now working for his return to politics.
Tan also confirmed yesterday (Aug. 28, 2021) that he is conducting consultative meetings with leaders of various sectors and barangays.
The owner of top Negros tourism destination Campuestohan Highland Resort was councilor of Bacolod from 1995 up to 2001.
Then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo appointed him as director of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).
He also served as Assistant Secretary of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) from 2004-2007, and served as Director of the Land Transportation Office-National Capital Region (LTO-NCR) from 2007 to 2009.
He lost his bid for congressman of Bacolod in 2010, but was elected as No.1 councilor in 2016.
He and his wife Nita survived an ambush in Barangay Granada in the city on December 2018.
After getting cleared from alleged links in illegal drugs by no less than President Rodrigo Duterte through the Philippine National Police (PNP), Tan went public again to clear his name and to reiterate that he was never involved in any illegal activity, nor had any wrongdoing while in public service.* (Arman P.
