Vice Mayor Familiaran urges youth to be aware of their social responsibility
Bacolod Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran today urged barangay- based youth to be aware of their social responsibility to their communities in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Familiaran, who addressed the Barangay Alijis KK (Katipunan ng Kabataan) Assembly and Linggo ng Kabataan 2021 celebration, lauded the participants led by SK Chairman Reymar Berja for their proposed community pantry in the village that will cater to the needs of the poor.
“It is commendable that you are serving your community at a young age. It is good training ground for you as future leaders of the city,” the vice mayor said.
Also at the KK’s morning assembly were Alijis Barangay Captain Deogracias Dela Vega and Police Captain Elmer Bonilla, station commander of Bacolod Police Station 7.
Familiaran said that in the face of the health crisis, it is imperative that young leaders must always keep themselves informed as knowledge empowers them to make the right decisions.
“You have to be conscious of your social responsibility; spend time to read because knowledge is power. Take time to also listen to news. You have to keep yourselves informed as future leaders,” Familiaran reminded assembly attendees.
It is worth mentioning, he said, that the Covid-19 infections in Bacolod are kept at manageable levels during the last 20 days as shown by data from the Emergency Operations Center and the regional office of the Department of Health.
He also shared that like the youth of Alijis, he just came from Barangay Singcang-Airport, where young leaders also partnered for a community pantry, spearheaded by the Almana Group of Companies, that will serve 2,000 indigents.* (CITY PIO)
