During a recent meeting with coaches, Negros Occidental Sports Coordinator Anthony Carlo Agustin disclosed that there will be new sports events to be added in the upcoming Abanse Negrense Free Sports Mentoring Program next month.

The initial six sports presented during the maiden session – arnis, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, football – will become ten with the inclusion of athletics, table tennis, softball, and volleyball for the second session. It was recalled that the recent Abanse Negrense sports webinar has been able to register 452 coaches, student-athletes, sports leaders, and sports enthusiasts.

Among the notable personalities who joined the webinar and shared some thoughts in their respective events is former Azkals captain Chieffy Caligdong, National Master Xavier John Verdun, Asian Badminton Confederation Development Officer Ian Gil Piencenaves, 4-time division world champion Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes, Philippine Junior and Youth team coach Gerson Nietes, 2020 Tokyo Olympics boxer Eumir Felix Marcial, SBP-Negros Occidental head referee Benny Lachica, 2010 PBA top pick Nonoy Baclao, and professional basketball players Pao Javelona and Jeffrey Manday.

For Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose ‘Bong’ Lacson, this event is a way to show that the province is trying to find ways to deliver its sports program and services to the people on any platform available.

Agustin, meanwhile, encourages everyone to continue their passion for sports and become the beacon of hope to the younger generations. “Things will get better soon. Let’s move forward together as one sports community,” he added.* (James G. Toga)
