A new set of 18 police officers was recognized for their extraordinary acts of compassion and integrity beyond the call of duty, as they join the growing number of Pulis Magiting X Pilipinong Magiting awardees.

Given simultaneously in six regions, Pulis Magiting X Pilipinong Magiting is a project spearheaded by Ayala Foundation in partnership with the Philippine National Police, with the support of Chooks-to-Go and GCash.

Given monthly, Pulis Magiting X Pilipinong Magiting recognizes uniformed personnel who demonstrate the virtue of “kagitingan”—courage or valor—in the performance of their role, or even beyond the call of duty. Each awardee is chosen based on how they have shown a clear love of the country and their local communities, by serving with integrity, honesty, and honor.

Among this months honorees include Police Staff Sergeant Maybelle Legario and Police Corporal Mary Joy Fusin, both from the Dumalag Municipal Police Station In Capiz, who helped a woman give birth.

In Bukidnon, Patrolman Elinand Palacios of the Second Provincial Mobile Force Company was recognized for his efforts to bring his training as a nurse to his mission to serve and protect the people in his community. He helps oversee the proper implementation of health and safety protocols, so that his colleagues and and the community they serve remain COVID-free. He also provides assistance for health emergencies in his community.

In Quezon City, Police Master Sergeant Charito de la Cruz Desmaya looked after a toddler who had been rescued from a crime scene. Desmaya made sure to comfort the baby girl, not leaving her until they found a relative who could take care of her.

As the partnership between the Philippine National Police and Ayala Foundation continues, a new set of 18 police officers joined the roster of Pulis Magiting X Pilipinong Magiting awardees. Given simultaneously in six regions.

Talking about how each Filipino can contribute to a culture of kagitingan, Ayala Foundation President Ruel Maranan said: “Kailangan mong maging magiting talaga. Alamin mo ang pangagailangan ng bayan—‘yung maganda ay ituloy, at ‘yung hindi kagandahan ay rebisahin. Nakikita natin sa kapaligiran natin na mayroong nang may kaayusan at mayroon pang aayusin.”

(We need to be truly courageous. Know what the country needs. Continue what is good, and change what is not so good. We see things around us that are good, and things that we can make better.)

Launched at the Philippine National Police Headquarters last July, Pulis Magiting X Pilipinong Magiting is part of Ayala Foundation’s Maging Magiting advocacy program that promotes love of country. Every month, Pulis Magiting X Pilipinong Magiting recognize between 15 to 20 police officers who show their pride in being Filipino by doing good and doing right, showing the different ways to express kagitingan in everyday life.

The initial six participating region included the National Capital Region, Calabarzon, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Davao Region.

Each Pulis Magiting X Pilipinong Magiting awardee receives a certificate of appreciation, a cash award from GCash, and gift certificates from Chooks-to-Go.

Other partners also supported the program in select regions. Globe Telecom provides additional Home Prepaid WiFi kits to awardees in Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Davao Region. In Calabarzon, Lourel Development Corporation provides additional cash support for the awardees.

Pulis Magiting X Pilipinong Magiting is one of Ayala Foundation’s key initiatives for the year, as it celebrates its 60th anniversary.
