July 28, 2021

The Negros Occidental provincial government is looking for ways to lower the cost of electricity.

Provincial economic consultant Alfredo Benitez led a meeting Monday for the holding of a power summit in the province to explore ways to reduce the cost of power.

Benitez said reducing power cost in the province will not only help consumers but allow stable and competitive rates and supply.
Having lower electricity rates will make the province more attractive to investments especially foreign investors and industries that generate more jobs, he said.

Considered among successful businessmen in the country, the former 3rd district congressman revealed that Negros produces about 600 megawatts of electricity but consumes only 350 MW.

Negros Island has geothermal, solar and biomass plants that produce bulk of the power supply from renewable energy in the country, he said.*
