Due to rising COVID cases, Talisay City sets stricter curfew hours

The City of Talisay in Negros Occidental has imposed stricter curfew hours to curb the spike of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the city.
Mayor Neil Lizares III issued Executive Order 36 yesterday imposing immediately a general curfew from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., which is two hours longer than the previous schedule of 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

“I am asking for your cooperation and understanding. The new curfew will help us stop people from going out of their homes when not necessary,” the mayor said in his message to his constituents posted on his Facebook page.

He added that he discussed strategic plans with the local inter-agency task force and barangay officials to put a stop to the “alarming number of positive cases”, and among these is the implementation of EO 36.

As of 8 a.m. today, Talisay has recorded a total of 336 confirmed Covid-19 cases. The number includes 181 active cases, 142 recoveries, and 13 deaths.
In Negros Occidental, Talisay has the highest number of cases, based on the last tally released by the provincial government.

“Despite the imposition of the general curfew from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. in order to lessen the risk of contracting the Covid-19 virus, the positive cases in the city continue to increase,” Lizares stated in EO 36.

The mayor said that the directive covers all non-workers and high-risk groups vulnerable to Covid-19.

Exempted from the curfew are those indispensable for obtaining goods and essential services; gainfully employed in permitted industries and offices; and providing care to persons with disabilities.

Others include persons traveling for medical and humanitarian reasons; transiting to the airport in Silay City or to the seaport in Bacolod City for travel on pre-booked trips; transiting to and from work; trading fish and similar products in all markets in the city and facilities where food and food products are traded; and working in trading and/or delivery of raw materials, food products, and other food supplies.

Also exempted are persons officially transporting any item in assistance of the fight against Covid-19, authorized local government officials and personnel, and city government essential skeletal workforce.*
