BOC Again Hits Monthly Target Amidst Challenges

August 6, 2020

Despite the underlying effects of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 and stringent community quarantine to the overall trading environment, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) was able to surpass its July 2020 collection target by 5% or P2.398 billion.

The BOC collected P50.072 billion against its target of P47.674 billion in July.7

Based on the preliminary report from the BOC-Financial Service, 10 of the 17 collection districts exceeded their target for the month, led by Port of Aparri, followed by the Port of Tacloban, Port of Limay, Port of Zamboanga, Port of Cagayan de Oro, Port of Davao, Port of Clark, Port of Cebu, Port of Batangas, and Port of Subic.

The BOC’s positive revenue collection performance is attributed to the improved valuation and volume of importation, coupled with the intensified collective effort of all ports. In addition, the increase can also be attributed to the government’s effort in ensuring unhampered movement of goods domestically and internationally considering the pandemic situation.

Despite this performance, the bureau maintained its border security measures against undervaluation, misdeclaration and other forms of technical smuggling and collect lawful revenues.

Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero commended the collective effort of the men and women of the Bureau of Customs who, despite the risk to their health and safety, showed their unwavering commitment and dedication to service.
