BOC-Port of Manila seizes P3.4 million worth of misdeclared products

The Bureau of Customs-Port of Manila (BOC-POM) seized P3.4 million pesos worth of misdeclared carrots, imported cigarettes, “ukay-ukays” and other products contained in two containers.

The shipments from China arrived last June 23 and 27, 2020 and were consigned to Real Mart and Bayford Marketing.

On July 10, 2020, CIIS-POM received derogatory information that shipment of Real Mart contains undeclared agricultural products.

Based on the initial report, Real Mart declared its shipment as frozen chimei pastry bun and found to contain carrots.
The other container consigned to Bayford Marketing was declared as knap sack bags, tissues, wearing apparel, auto parts and hand tools, but was found to have imported cigarettes, portable welding machines, resin, “ukay ukays” and other commodities.

District Collector Michael Angelo Vargas immediately issued alert orders for the said shipments, few days after his assumption in POM.

Upon 100% physical examination, the Customs Examiners found out an estimated P1.4M worth of carrots and roughly P2M worth of imported cigarettes and other commodities.
The entire shipments were issued Warrants of Seizure and Detention for violation of Section 1400 “Misdeclaration, Misclassification and Undervaluation in Goods Declaration” in relation to Section 1113 “Property Subject Seizure and Forfeiture” of the CMTA.

Through the collected efforts of various units XIP, CIIS, ESS and the Port of Manila, District Collector Vargas, following the stern directives of the Commissioner, BOC-POM will continue to be vigilant against incursions of smuggled goods and fulfill its mandate to enhance border security.
