CENECO Explains Power Interruptions at Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto

May 31, 2020

Over the past week, several unscheduled power interruptions have transpired in the municipalities of Murcia and Salvador Benedicto primarily due to transient line faults caused by distribution line insulator failures and momentary tree contact on our distribution lines covered by Murcia Feeder 2 (MuF2).

Considering the long span of distribution lines covering Murcia and Salvador Benedicto, line faults in any area will affect the whole coverage area.

Technical and maintenance activities were supposed to be conducted in MuF2 but due to the declaration of Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) starting mid-March, these activities were suspended. Third party contractors from Cebu and Cagayan De Oro were impeded to enter Negros Occidental due to travel restrictions.

With the lifting of ECQ, CENECO will now be pushing through with the postponed line clearing operations and technical works to be undertaken by CENECO’s contractor particularly on the unloading of MuF2 which involves splitting of the same into three feeders. These measures will significantly improve power reliability in the coverage areas.

Currently, MFO is conducting massive scanning and pole to pole inspection to replace damaged insulators and other line hardware. Additional disconnecting cut-outs will also be installed in some areas so that power interruptions, if any, will only be limited to areas affected by line faults.

CENECO appeals for the understanding of its Member-Consumer-Owners for inevitable brownouts and apologizes for the inconvenience brought about by these power interruptions.

Rest assured that your electric cooperative is implementing measures to improve power reliability to better serve you.
