Mayor Greg Gasataya officially opened the Bacolod Chicken Inasal Festival 2026 on May 29 at the SM City Bacolod Manokan Country, leading the ceremonial grilling that marked the start of the city’s much-anticipated culinary celebration.

The opening ceremony brought together city officials, tourism stakeholders, media partners, and festival supporters, showcasing Bacolod’s pride as the home of the world-famous chicken inasal. With grills fired up and the aroma of inasal filling the air, the event symbolized unity and the city’s rich culinary heritage.

In his message, Mayor Gasataya emphasized the inseparable connection between Bacolod and its iconic dish. “When you speak of Bacolod, it is always associated with chicken inasal.

When you say chicken inasal, it is definitely Bacolod,” the mayor said.

He also underscored the festival’s significant contribution to the local economy, particularly its role in boosting tourism and supporting the livelihoods of those in the inasal industry.

“The festival has a significant impact on our local economy, especially in driving tourism growth and creating opportunities that improve the lives of our local vendors,” he added.

Among the festival-goers was Nitz Ginete of Batangas, who flew to Bacolod specifically to experience the Chicken Inasal Festival firsthand. She shared that Bacolod’s food remains her primary reason for returning to the city.

“Every time I come here, I am really looking for this food. It’s definitely tasty,” she said.

Her experience reflects how the festival continues to attract visitors from across the country who are eager to savor Bacolod’s signature flavors and vibrant food culture.

Mayor Gasataya also expressed his gratitude to Councilor Celia Flor and Councilor Jason Villarosa for their efforts in making the event possible, recognizing their contributions in bringing the festival to life.

Following the grand opening, the festival continues with a series of activities across key venues in the city.

On May 29, festivities continue at Manokan Country with “The Taste of Chicken Inasal” and the BCIF Awards 2026, which honor excellence in the local food and tourism industry.

On May 30, the celebration moves to The Upper East, Megaworld, featuring the Grand Chicken Inasal Parade with float displays, street dancing, and arena performances, followed by the BCIF Rotisserie Show.

The festival culminates on May 31 at Ayala Malls Capitol Central with the Chicken Inasal Cook-Off Competition, showcasing the skills of local grill masters, and the SMB Beer Pairing and Food Tasting event.
