Mayor assures proper use

Moises Padilla Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo on Tuesday received ₱10 million in financial assistance from the provincial government for the recovery of the municipality following Typhoon Tino.

Garcia-Yulo expressed gratitude for the aid, saying that regardless of the amount, what matters is that assistance is available to affected residents.

“Even if the amount is small, it is important because people will still receive help,” the mayor told reporters in an ambush interview after the check turnover ceremony Tuesday morning at the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City.

She also thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the additional ₱10 million assistance provided by the national government.

The mayor said the ₱20 million total assistance—₱10 million from the President and ₱10 million from the provincial government—will be discussed Thursday.

Garcia-Yulo clarified that the financial assistance is not limited to housing support and may also be used for food and other recovery needs of affected residents.

On the municipality’s relocation program for Typhoon Tino-affected families, the mayor said a geodetic engineer has already begun the subdivision of the relocation site.

The proposed lot allocations will be submitted to the Sangguniang Bayan for the formulation of the implementing rules and regulations.

She explained that beneficiaries will be required to reside in the relocation lots for a specific period before ownership is awarded to prevent future disputes.

More than 100 families are expected to benefit from the relocation project.

Mayor Garcia-Yulo said her uncle Eric Golez is prepared to add another hectare of land if the initial donated area proves insufficient.

Moises Padilla is among the eight LGUs identified by the provincial government to avail of the P50M aid from Malacañan.

The rest are La Castellana and La Carlota City which also received ₱10 million each.

Bago City, Hinigaran, and Binalbagan each got P5 million, while Isabela and Pontevedra received P2.5 million each.* (YSD)
