The Provincial Highway Patrol Team (PHPT) in Negros Oriental reported a 35-percent reduction in carnapping in 2025 following relentless operations.

PHPT-Negros Oriental chief, Police Executive Master Sgt Aurelio Bodo, said on Tuesday that 42 incidents of carnapping of motorcycles and four-wheeled vehicles were recorded in 2025, compared to 65 in 2024.

“These accomplishments were made possible through the strong support and cooperation of partner agencies, local government units, and other stakeholders,” Bodo said.

The team’s other accomplishments last year included the issuance of 1,359 temporary operator’s permit, with common violations such as failure to wear seatbelt; failure to carry an OR/CR (official receipt/certificate of registration); no valid driver’s license; and driving without a helmet.

A 100-percent recovery rate for four-wheeled vehicles was attributed to coordination efforts, as most were stolen outside Negros Oriental.

The recovery rate for motorcycles was at 85 percent.

On law enforcement, particularly on implementation of Republic Act 10883 or the Anti-Carnapping Act, 20 suspects were arrested without a warrant, while five accused were arrested with a warrant.

Meanwhile, 18 were nabbed for other criminal offenses.

One significant accomplishment last year was the confiscation of 574 master cases of illicit cigarettes in Basay, Negros Oriental, valued at over PHP24 million.* (Mary Judaline Partlow/PNA)
