Street Dance, Itchyworms Highlight 30th Tinabuay Festival Tomorrow

The December 4 events featured the Drum and Lyre Competition 2025, which was topped by the Cansilayan Farm School. Lopez Jaena National High School and La Consolacion College – Murcia won 1st Runner-up and 2nd Runner-up, respectively. Other participating schools were the Minoyan National High School and Murcia National High School.*

The Street Dance & Arena Competition, Cong. Javi’s Day, Fireworks Display and the live performance of the band “Itchyworms” highlight tomorrow, December 8 Monday, the five-day celebration of the Municipality of Murcia’s 30th Tinabuay Festival and 165th Patronal Fiesta of the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish.

“As we celebrate the 30th Tinabuay Festival, let us give thanks to our patroness, the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, for all the blessings and progress of our town. Let us thank the Lord for His blessings and protection that, despite numerous catastrophes – from earthquake, Kanlaon volcanic eruption and several typhoons – we have zero casualty here in Murcia,” said Mayor Gerry M. Rojas during the festival’s opening program last December 4.

“As we celebrate the 30th Tinabuay Festival, let us give thanks to our patroness, the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, and the Lord for all His blessings and protection that, despite numerous catastrophes – from the earthquake, Kanlaon volcanic eruption and several typhoons – we have zero casualty in Murcia,” said Mayor Gerry M. Rojas during the festival’s opening program last December 4.*

“We invite you, your family and your friends to come and join us in this celebration. Let us maintain our unity among ourselves for the continued progress of our town and for the welfare of our children. Sige pa, Murcia! Mag Tinabuay kita!” Mayor Rojas added.

With the mayor during the opening program were Vice-Mayor Johnny Reosura, Sangguniang Bayan Members Hernan Alintana, Francoise Singson, Kedy Yu, JR Gravino, Jenny Jimenea and Reyjune Florentino.

The first day of the festival started with a holy mass and a parade led by the different drum and bugle corps in the town; teachers, parents and students of public and private schools; private establishments and resorts, barangay officials and workers, the PNP, BFP, Army and DA Philrice Negros, as well as the Murcia Water District.

The candidates of the Lin-ay sg Tinabuay Festival and the 2024 Reyna sg Tinabuay Festival Chelzy Jallienne V. Subaldo also joined the parade and were presented during the opening program.

Also joining the parade in full force were civic organizations, such as the Murcia Child Development Workers Association, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Murcia Solo Parents Association, Murcia Zensation Zumba Group, Murcia Plaza Manicuristas, Federation of OFW-Murcia, Market Vendors Association, and Murcia E-Trikes Operators & Drivers Association, among others.

Force multipliers and other service-oriented groups also actively participated in the festival’s opening salvo. Among them are the Community Information Service-Support Group (CIS-SG) Murcia Chapter, Anti-Crime Task Force-Information Support Group (ACTF-ISG), Guardians Philippines Anti-Crime Organization, K9Guardians – Murcia Chapter, Road Safety Advocates of the Philippines – Murcia Chapter, and Murcia Municipal Federated Parents-Teachers Association.

After the festival opening, Mayor Rojas led the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Tindabuay Trade Fair, which showcases Murcia’s best agricultural, handicraft and food products.

Thursday afternoon was enlivened by the Fancy Drill Competition, while the early evening revelers were entertained by the Central Philippine Adventist College Chorale and, later in the evening, by the live performance of Cali Island. J Elias V TV Band packed the plaza last Friday, while the band “Siakol” rocked Murciahanons last Saturday.*
